FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ulcergard have to be given on an empty stomach?
Yes, UlcerGard should be given on an empty stomach for best results.
Ulcergard contains omeprazole, which works most effectively when the stomach is empty. Giving it before feeding allows the medication to reduce acid production properly and protect the stomach lining.
I am moving my horse from VA to CO do I give this to her everyday of her trip?
It is recommended that UlcerGard be provided daily during periods of stress, such as moving, to prevent gastric ulcers.
When should Ulcergard be given?
To help horses maintain optimal gastric health, it is recommended that ULCERGARD be administered during stressful events or activities that may induce stomach ulcers.
How many days do you give Ulcergard?
Treatment dose (ie: horse already has ulcers and you are treating them) is 1 whole tube once daily for 14-28 days. Preventative dose (ie: horse is about to have an event of stress and you want to prevent ulcers from forming) is 1/4 tube once daily.
Can I ride my horse while treating for ulcers?
If the horse has stomach problems, the training program should generally be reversed first. The extent of the pain caused by stomach ulcer varies greatly, depending of course on the degree of stomach ulcer.
Can I give a whole tube of ULCERGARD?
For the prevention of gastric ulcers in horses UlcerGard Equine Gastric Paste has 4 maintenance doses per tube, although for acute ulcer conditions one whole tube per day is recommended. With any medication, follow your vet’s protocol.
